Description
Easter Dirt Cake is a fun, no-bake dessert that layers creamy vanilla pudding and whipped topping with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies to resemble ‘dirt.’ Topped with colorful Easter candies like Peeps, mini chocolate eggs, and jelly beans, it’s a whimsical and delicious treat perfect for spring gatherings and celebrations.
Ingredients
Cookies
- 1 package (14.3 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
Filling
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 packages (3.4 oz each) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3 cups cold milk
- 1 container (8 oz) Cool Whip, thawed
Topping
- Easter candies for topping (Peeps, mini chocolate eggs, jelly beans, etc.)
Instructions
- Crush Cookies: Crush the chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a zip-top bag and crushing them with a rolling pin.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, unsalted butter, and powdered sugar until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
- Make Pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mixes and cold milk for 2 minutes until the pudding thickens.
- Combine Mixtures: Fold the thickened pudding into the cream cheese mixture gently, then fold in the thawed Cool Whip until fully combined and smooth.
- Assemble Layers: In a 9×13-inch dish or a trifle bowl, layer half of the crushed cookies on the bottom. Spread the pudding mixture evenly over this cookie base, then sprinkle the remaining crushed cookies on top.
- Add Decorations: Decorate the top layer with Easter candies such as Peeps, mini chocolate eggs, and jelly beans to create a festive ‘dirt’ scene.
- Chill: Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to set and the dessert to firm up.
Notes
- You can prepare individual servings in clear cups or jars for parties or gatherings.
- For a richer flavor, substitute vanilla pudding mix with chocolate pudding mix.
- This dessert can be made up to 1 day in advance; add the candy decorations just before serving to keep them fresh and vibrant.
