Description

Delicious Philly Cheesesteak Fruehlingsrollen blend the hearty flavors of classic Philly cheesesteak with the crispy crunch of spring rolls. This fusion appetizer combines tender ribeye steak, sautéed onions and green peppers, melted provolone cheese, all wrapped in crispy fried spring roll wrappers, perfect for a flavorful snack or party dish.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 pound ribeye steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices provolone cheese, cut into strips

Wrapper & Frying

  • 10 spring roll wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and green pepper, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes. Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet.
  2. Cook the Steak: Add the thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook the meat until browned, about 3 to 4 minutes, then stir to combine with the vegetables. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Rolls: Place a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner facing you. Spoon a portion of the steak and vegetable mixture near the bottom corner, then add a strip of provolone cheese on top. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll tightly. Seal the edge with beaten egg. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  4. Fry the Rolls: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the spring rolls in batches until golden and crispy, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Use tongs to turn carefully. Drain the fried rolls on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  5. Serve: Serve the Philly Cheesesteak Fruehlingsrollen hot with your choice of dipping sauces such as spicy ketchup or garlic mayo.

Notes

  • Best enjoyed fresh and hot for optimal crispness.
  • You can freeze the assembled spring rolls before frying for future use.
  • Swap provolone cheese with mozzarella or Cheez Whiz as preferred.
  • Great served with spicy ketchup or garlic mayonnaise dips.
