Description

Delicious Korean Ground Beef Bowl is a quick and flavorful dish featuring savory-sweet beef, fluffy rice, and vibrant garnishes—perfect for a fuss-free dinner packed with umami.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85% or 90% lean)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Cooked white or brown rice, for serving
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots or cucumber slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare aromatics and sauce: Mince garlic and ginger, slice green onions. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Cook beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown ground beef, breaking it apart. Once no longer pink, add garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant.
  3. Add sauce: Pour in soy sauce mixture and simmer for 2–3 minutes until the beef is coated and the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Assemble bowls: Spoon rice into bowls, top with beef mixture, then garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and optional carrots or cucumbers.

Notes

  • Great garnishes include shredded carrots, cucumber, and extra sesame seeds for crunch and color.
  • Pair with kimchi, cucumber salad, or sautéed greens for a complete meal.
  • Make mini versions in lettuce cups or layer in jars for portable lunches.
  • Store beef and rice separately in the fridge for up to 4 days; beef also freezes well for up to 2 months.
  • Use tamari for a gluten-free version, and ground turkey or chicken as leaner meat alternatives.
