Description

Delight in this Southern classic with these Deep Fried Pecan Pies, featuring a rich pecan filling enveloped in crispy, golden fried pie crusts. Perfect for holiday treats or any time you crave a sweet, crunchy dessert.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Crust and Frying

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, combine chopped pecans, light corn syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined, ensuring a sticky, rich filling.
  2. Cut the Dough: Unroll the refrigerated pie crusts on a clean surface. Using a round cutter about 4 inches in diameter, cut out circles from the dough evenly to prepare the mini pie bases.
  3. Assemble the Pies: Place approximately 1 tablespoon of the pecan filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and press the edges firmly together. Use a fork to crimp the edges to seal tightly and prevent leakage during frying.
  4. Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C), using a thermometer to ensure accurate temperature for optimal frying.
  5. Fry the Pies: Carefully lower a few pies at a time into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding. Fry each side for 2–3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crisp.
  6. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried pies with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for added sweetness. Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Ensure the edges are tightly sealed to prevent the filling from leaking during frying.
  • Pies can be prepped ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to fry.
  • Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
