Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
 - 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
 
Wet Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
 - 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
 - 4 large eggs
 - 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
 - 1 cup whole milk
 
Caramel Frosting:
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
 - 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for caramel)
 - 1/4 cup heavy cream
 - Pinch of salt
 - 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
 - Additional caramel drizzle for topping (optional)
 
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease/flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
 - Mix Dry Ingredients: Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
 - Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
 - Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. Mix in flour and milk alternately.
 - Bake: Divide batter between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes. Cool cakes on racks.
 - Make Caramel Frosting: Cook brown sugar and butter until thick, then add cream, salt, and powdered sugar.
 - Frost Cake: Layer cakes with caramel frosting, then cover top and sides. Drizzle with extra caramel.
 
Notes
- For richer flavor, use dark brown sugar in the frosting.
 - Cake can be made a day ahead and stored covered at room temperature.
