Description

These Dark Chocolate Brown Sugar Cookies feature a rich cocoa flavor, chewy centers, and crisp edges, all elevated by deep caramel notes from brown sugar and chunks of dark chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips or chunks
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Cream together the room temperature butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes using an electric mixer on medium speed.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  4. Fold in the dark chocolate chips or chunks evenly.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Scoop dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing cookies 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and centers remain soft. Let cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt after baking for extra flavor contrast.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Freeze dough balls for on-demand cookies; bake from frozen with an extra minute or two added.
