Description

Cupid’s Love Pies are adorable, heart-shaped mini hand pies filled with sweet strawberry or raspberry jam, perfect for Valentine’s Day celebrations or as charming homemade gifts. These golden-baked treats are easy to prepare using refrigerated pie crusts and can be personalized with optional icing or a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra festive touch.

Ingredients

Pie Ingredients

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts), thawed
  • ½ cup strawberry or raspberry jam
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for topping)
  • Optional: pink or red food coloring, powdered sugar for dusting, or icing drizzle

For Icing (optional)

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 teaspoons milk
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Cut Out Heart Shapes: Unroll the thawed pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out an even number of hearts (approximately 16–20 depending on your cutter size).
  3. Assemble the Pies: Place half of the heart shapes on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of strawberry or raspberry jam into the center of each heart.
  4. Seal the Pies: Top each jam-filled heart with another heart cutout. Gently press the edges together with your fingers or use a fork to crimp and seal the pies to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  5. Apply Egg Wash and Sugar: Brush the tops of the pies with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color when baked. Sprinkle the tops evenly with granulated sugar for added sweetness and a slight crunch.
  6. Bake: Bake the pies in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Cool: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the pies to cool on a wire rack to room temperature.
  8. Prepare Optional Icing and Decorate: In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar with 1 to 2 teaspoons of milk until smooth. Add a drop of red or pink food coloring if desired for a festive touch. Drizzle the icing over the cooled pies or dust them with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • These mini pies are perfect for Valentine’s Day parties or as sweet homemade gifts to loved ones.
  • You can swap the strawberry or raspberry jam with alternatives like Nutella, chocolate spread, or cherry jam for variety.
  • Store the pies at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer freshness, refrigerate them in an airtight container.
  • If you want to make the pies ahead, you can assemble them and freeze before baking. Bake directly from frozen by adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
