Description
Refreshing and hydrating Cucumber Agua Fresca, a light Mexican-inspired beverage made with fresh cucumber, lime juice, and natural sweetener, perfect for hot days or as a healthy, low-calorie drink option.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 large cucumber, peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 2 tablespoons agave syrup or sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
- Extra lime wedges (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Peel and chop the large cucumber into pieces manageable for blending. Measure out fresh lime juice, agave syrup or sugar, and cold water to have all ingredients ready.
- Blend Mixture: Place the chopped cucumber, lime juice, agave syrup (or sugar), and cold water into a blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth, approximately 30 to 60 seconds.
- Strain Liquid: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher to remove cucumber pulp, if a smooth texture is preferred. Use a spatula or spoon to press the pulp gently to extract more liquid.
- Adjust Sweetness: Stir the strained agua fresca well and taste. Add additional agave syrup or sugar if a sweeter flavor is desired and stir until dissolved.
- Serve and Garnish: Serve the chilled cucumber agua fresca over ice cubes. Garnish each glass with fresh mint leaves and lime wedges for an extra burst of freshness and visual appeal.
Notes
- For a lighter version, reduce or omit the sweetener.
- Make sure to peel the cucumber to avoid bitterness from the skin.
- The straining step is optional but recommended for a silky smooth drink.
- Use fresh lime juice for best flavor; bottled lime juice can alter the taste.
- To make it vegan-friendly, use agave syrup instead of honey.
- Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days; stir well before serving.
