Ingredients
Apples:
- 6 pounds apples (such as Fuji, Gala, or McIntosh), peeled, cored, and chopped
Sugar Mix:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Additional:
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Place the chopped apples in a large crockpot.
- Cook: Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and dark brown.
- Final Steps: Stir in the vanilla extract. Remove the lid and continue cooking on low for an additional 1–2 hours to thicken, stirring occasionally.
Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Stir to coat the apples evenly with the spices.
Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth, or transfer to a blender in batches.
Let cool and store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
