Description

Crispy Smashed Potatoes are a delightful side dish featuring tender boiled baby potatoes that are smashed, seasoned, and roasted to golden perfection. This recipe combines simple ingredients like garlic powder, smoked paprika, and Parmesan for a flavorful and crispy finish, perfect for a family meal or entertaining guests.


Ingredients

Potatoes

  • lbs baby potatoes (Yukon Gold or red potatoes)
  • 2 tbsp salt (for boiling water)

Seasoning & Garnish

  • 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)


Instructions

  1. Boil the Potatoes: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add 2 tablespoons of salt. Add the baby potatoes and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until they are fork-tender. Drain the potatoes and let them cool slightly so they are easier to handle in the next step.
  2. Smash the Potatoes: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet lightly. Place the cooled potatoes on the baking sheet and use a fork or the bottom of a glass to gently press each one until flattened to about half an inch thick. This increases surface area for extra crispiness.
  3. Season & Roast: In a small bowl, combine the olive oil or melted butter with garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and black pepper. Drizzle the seasoning mixture evenly over all the smashed potatoes. Roast them in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway through so both sides become golden and crispy.
  4. Garnish & Serve: Once roasted, remove the potatoes from the oven and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious and satisfying side dish.
