Description

Enjoy the crispy goodness of these flavorful Crispy Okra Fries, a delightful Southern-inspired snack or appetizer that’s perfect for any occasion. Whether air-fried or baked, these okra fries are sure to be a hit!

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound fresh okra, tops trimmed and cut in half lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk or milk
  • cooking spray or oil for air frying or baking

Instructions

  1. Preheat: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F or oven to 425°F.
  2. Prepare Coating: In a shallow bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat Okra: Toss the okra in buttermilk until lightly coated. Dredge the okra pieces in the cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly so the coating sticks.
  4. Cook: Arrange the okra in a single layer in the air fryer basket or on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Lightly spray with oil. Air fry for 10-12 minutes or bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, add a tablespoon of panko breadcrumbs to the coating mix.
  • These are best enjoyed immediately while hot and crispy.
