Description

Enjoy a deliciously crispy and sweet treat with these Crispy Air Fryer Apple Fries. Made with tart Granny Smith apples lightly coated in a spiced flour mixture, these apple fries are air fried to perfect crispiness and dusted with powdered sugar for an addictive snack or dessert that’s quick and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Apples

  • 2 pieces Granny Smith apples (Tart apples work best for flavor)

Coating

  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Powdered sugar (divided for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground cloves

Others

  • Cooking oil spray (for spraying the air fryer basket)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples: Wash and dry the Granny Smith apples thoroughly. If preferred, peel the apples for a smoother texture. Then slice the apples into fry-shaped sticks, about the thickness of regular fries.
  2. Coating: In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and half of the powdered sugar to create a spiced coating mixture. Toss the apple sticks in this mixture until they are evenly coated.
  3. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 3 minutes to ensure it’s hot enough for proper cooking. Meanwhile, spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Cooking: Arrange the coated apple sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket to allow even air circulation. Air fry the apples for 8 to 10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to ensure all sides crisp evenly.
  5. Finish: Once cooked, toss the hot apple fries with the remaining powdered sugar for added sweetness, or serve them as is or with your favorite dip. Enjoy immediately while crispy and warm.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith to balance the sweetness and maintain crispness.
  • Peeling the apples is optional; leaving the skin adds extra texture and nutrients.
  • Shaking the basket halfway through cooking ensures the apple fries cook evenly and crisp up on all sides.
  • Serve immediately for best texture, as they may lose crispness upon standing.
  • You can customize the spices to your preference by adding a pinch of cardamom or allspice.
