Description

This creamy tuna noodle bake is a comforting and easy-to-make casserole featuring tender egg noodles mixed with tuna, peas, and a rich cheesy mushroom sauce. Topped with melted cheddar cheese and baked to a bubbling golden perfection, it’s perfect for a family dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup sour cream or mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Noodles: Boil the egg noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain them well and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, frozen peas, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream or mayonnaise, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until fully blended into a creamy mixture.
  4. Add Noodles: Add the cooked and drained egg noodles to the bowl and toss everything together until the noodles are evenly coated with the sauce mixture.
  5. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the tuna noodle mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it out evenly to create a uniform layer.
  6. Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle additional shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole for a cheesy crust.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, until the casserole is bubbling and the cheese on top is melted and golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and let the casserole cool slightly before serving to allow it to set.

Notes

  • You can substitute sour cream with mayonnaise depending on your preference.
  • For a healthier version, use low-fat sour cream and reduced-fat cheddar cheese.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
  • Ensure noodles are not overcooked to avoid a mushy casserole.
  • Add breadcrumbs on top before baking for a crunchy topping.
