Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 small yellow onion (diced)
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil (plus more for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté garlic and onion in olive oil until soft. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 8-10 minutes.
- Add cream and cheese: Reduce heat, stir in heavy cream, and let simmer for 2-3 minutes. Add Parmesan cheese and melt into the sauce.
- Combine and serve: Toss cooked pasta in the sauce, add fresh basil, and serve garnished with more basil and Parmesan.
Notes
- You can use half-and-half or coconut cream as a lighter or dairy-free alternative to heavy cream.
- Enhance with sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or grilled chicken for added protein.
