Description

This classic Creamy Southern Coleslaw brings together crisp cabbage, sweet carrots, and a rich, tangy-sweet dressing for the ultimate side dish to barbecue, fried chicken, or sandwiches.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 large carrots, grated
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp celery seed
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Shred cabbage and carrots using a sharp knife, mandolin, or box grater. Place in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, Dijon mustard, celery seed, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots. Toss well until all the vegetables are evenly coated.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld and cabbage to soften slightly.

Notes

  • For convenience, use bagged coleslaw mix if short on time.
  • Customize with extras like red onion, red cabbage, or golden raisins.
  • Chill overnight for deeper flavor development.
