- 12 oz pasta (penne or rigatoni)
- 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for another 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in chicken broth and simmer for 2-3 minutes, scraping up any bits from the pan.
- Add heavy cream and Italian seasoning, stirring well. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes until sauce thickens slightly.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted and combined. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat in the creamy sauce.
- Serve warm, garnished with fresh parsley.
