Description

Indulge in the comforting flavors of this Creamy Sausage & Potato Bake, a hearty dish loaded with smoked sausage, tender potatoes, and a rich, cheesy cream sauce. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.

Ingredients

For the Creamy Sausage & Potato Bake:

  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Sauté the sausage: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the sausage slices until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. Prepare the cream mixture: In a large bowl, combine heavy cream, sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir until smooth.
  4. Layer the ingredients: Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the onions, sausage, and cream mixture. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top, and bake for another 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  6. Serve: Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute smoked sausage with chicken sausage or kielbasa.
  • For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
  • Add steamed broccoli or spinach for extra veggies.
