Description
This Creamy Homemade Alfredo Sauce is a luscious, velvety sauce made with butter, heavy cream, garlic, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Perfect for elevating pasta dishes, vegetables, or proteins, it offers a rich and smooth texture with a hint of nutmeg and fresh parsley garnish for added flavor and visual appeal.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Melt Butter and Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Add Cream and Simmer: Pour in the heavy cream and stir well. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low.
- Season Sauce: Stir in salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg if using. Continue simmering for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add Parmesan Cheese: Gradually add the freshly grated Parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Finish and Serve: Remove the sauce from heat and use immediately over pasta, vegetables, or protein. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese rather than pre-shredded for best flavor and smooth texture.
- To thin the sauce, stir in a splash of warm milk or reserved pasta water.
- This sauce pairs beautifully with fettuccine, shrimp, grilled chicken, or steamed broccoli.
