Description

A cozy, creamy one-skillet dinner loaded with juicy chicken sausage, tender orzo, fresh spinach, and a Parmesan-laced sauce—perfect for weeknights or gatherings with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz chicken sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 cups baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned. Remove with a slotted spoon.
  2. Add onion to the skillet and sauté until soft, then stir in garlic for 30 seconds.
  3. Add orzo and toast for 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender and most liquid is absorbed, about 10–12 minutes.
  5. Stir in cream, spinach, and Parmesan. Let spinach wilt and cheese melt into a creamy sauce.
  6. Return chicken sausage to the pan and combine well. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  7. Serve warm, garnished with extra Parmesan and fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • For added veggies, stir in peas, zucchini, or bell peppers.
  • Use turkey sausage or vegetarian alternatives for variation.
  • If reheating, add a splash of cream or broth to restore the sauce’s texture.
