Description

This recipe for Cinnamon-Sugar Air Fryer Banana Chips offers a delightful combination of sweet, crispy, and healthy snacks that are perfect for any time of day. Using ripe yet firm bananas, a touch of coconut oil, and a blend of cinnamon and sugar, these banana chips are air-fried to golden perfection. They are easy to make, quick to cook, and a great alternative to traditional chips with the added natural sweetness and nutritional benefits of bananas.

Ingredients

Banana Chips Ingredients

  • 2 ripe but firm bananas (yellow, just speckled)
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (or olive oil)
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Bananas: Peel the bananas and slice them into ⅛-inch thick rounds. Aim to keep the slices uniform in thickness to ensure even cooking throughout.
  2. Coat with Oil & Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt if using. Lightly brush both sides of the banana slices with coconut or olive oil. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the banana slices.
  3. Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 330°F (165°C). Place the banana slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket; work in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding. Cook the slices for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time until they turn golden and achieve a light crispness.
  4. Cool & Crisp Up: Carefully remove the banana chips from the air fryer and let them cool completely at room temperature. The chips will continue to crisp as they cool. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Use bananas that are ripe but still firm to ensure the chips crisp properly without becoming mushy.
  • Adjust the sugar quantity or use coconut sugar for a more natural sweetness alternative.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, the banana slices can be baked in the oven at 175°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway, but the texture might differ slightly.
  • Allow the chips to cool completely before storing to maintain their crispiness.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep the chips fresh and crunchy longer.
