Ingredients
Cookie Dough
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Cream the Butter, Cream Cheese, and Sugar. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, cream cheese, and 1 cup of granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, creating a smooth base for your cookie dough.
- Add Egg and Vanilla. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined, which will add moisture and flavor to the dough.
- Mix Dry Ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening and spices.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients while mixing until a soft dough forms, being careful not to overmix.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Coating. In a small bowl, combine the 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for the coating.
- Form and Coat Cookies. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated to add a sweet and spicy crust.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet. Place the coated cookie dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet and gently press down each ball to slightly flatten for even baking.
- Bake Cookies. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the tops are lightly golden.
- Cool Cookies. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely, ensuring they set properly.
Notes
- Ensure butter and cream cheese are softened to room temperature for easier mixing and a smoother dough.
- Do not overbake; cookies should be lightly golden and soft in the center for the best texture.
- For a stronger cinnamon flavor, you can increase the cinnamon in the coating up to 1.5 teaspoons.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for longer storage.
- If you prefer a crunchier cookie, bake for an additional 1-2 minutes but watch closely to avoid burning.
