Ingredients
Spinach Dip Filling
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Dough and Topping
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: sesame seeds or grated Parmesan for topping
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare Dip Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, grated Parmesan, shredded mozzarella, thawed and drained spinach, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything well until fully incorporated and smooth. Set aside.
- Roll Out First Dough Layer: Roll out one can of the refrigerated crescent roll dough directly onto the prepared baking sheet. Pinch all the seams together to create a single, uniform dough sheet without gaps.
- Spread Spinach Dip: Evenly spread the prepared spinach dip mixture over the dough layer, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges to seal later.
- Roll Out Second Dough Layer: Roll out the second can of crescent roll dough and carefully place it on top of the spinach dip, gently pressing around the edges to seal the two layers together and trap the filling inside.
- Shape into Christmas Tree: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the stacked dough into a large triangle shape resembling a Christmas tree. Keep any extra dough for decorations if you want to add them later.
- Create Branches: Starting from the top of the triangle, make horizontal cuts on both sides of the tree into strips, leaving a 1-inch wide strip down the center for the tree trunk. Twist each strip outward slightly to form tree branches.
- Apply Egg Wash and Toppings: Brush the entire shaped tree with beaten egg to give it a shiny golden finish when baked. Sprinkle sesame seeds or additional grated Parmesan on top if desired to add extra flavor and texture.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the breadsticks are puffed up and golden brown. Once baked, remove from oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Make sure to thoroughly drain the thawed spinach to avoid soggy breadsticks.
