Ingredients

For the Bars:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • food coloring (optional)
  • holiday sprinkles


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare the baking dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Make the Cookie Bars: Cream butter and sugar, add egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Mix dry ingredients separately, then combine with wet ingredients. Press dough into pan and bake until lightly golden.
  3. Prepare the Frosting: Beat butter, add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Add food coloring if desired. Spread over cooled bars and top with sprinkles.
