Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons red and green sprinkles or nonpareils (plus more for topping, if desired)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Add sprinkles: Fold in the holiday sprinkles.
- Shape and bake: Roll the dough into small 1/2-inch balls and place them 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly press each ball down with your fingers. Top with a few more sprinkles if desired. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until the bottoms are lightly golden.
- Cool and serve: Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- These cookies store well in an airtight container for up to a week and freeze beautifully.
- You can add almond extract for a subtle nutty twist.
- For cleaner edges, roll and cut the dough into squares before baking.
