  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Additional:

  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • Flaky sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Add the peanut butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until smooth.
  5. Combine dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate: Gently fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.
  7. Bake: Scoop the dough into tablespoon-sized balls on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten slightly, sprinkle with sea salt if desired, and bake for 10–12 minutes.
  8. Cool and serve: Let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For extra peanut butter flavor, press a few peanut butter chips into the tops before baking.
  • These cookies freeze well and taste great chilled.
