Ingredients
Pastry
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
Filling and Topping
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Egg Wash
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Thaw Puff Pastry: If using frozen puff pastry, thaw it according to the package instructions until pliable.
- Prepare Pastry Squares: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into your preferred shape, either squares or rectangles.
- Add Butter and Sugar Mixture: Brush each pastry piece with the melted butter, then sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over the top. For chocolate lovers, add a few chocolate chips in the center of each square.
- Fold and Seal: Fold each square into a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges gently to seal the filling inside.
- Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the tops of the pastries to give them a beautiful golden finish when baked.
- Bake: Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the pastries from the oven, let them cool slightly, and dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the melted butter before brushing.
- Ensure the puff pastry is properly thawed to avoid cracks when folding.
- Customize fillings by using jam, cream cheese, or nuts instead of chocolate chips.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Reheat pastries briefly in the oven to restore crispness before serving.
