Ingredients
Puff Pastry Base
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Filling and Topping
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
- Thaw Puff Pastry: If using frozen puff pastry, thaw it following the package instructions to ensure it rolls out smoothly.
- Roll and Cut Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smoothen it, then cut into squares or rectangles based on your preference.
- Add Toppings and Filling: Brush the top of each pastry square with melted butter, sprinkle sugar and cinnamon evenly for sweetness and flavor. Optionally, add a few chocolate chips in the center and a drop of vanilla extract for enhanced taste.
- Fold and Seal: Fold each square into a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges gently but firmly to seal in the filling and prevent leakage during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush this over the pastry tops to give the pastries a beautiful golden and shiny crust when baked.
- Bake Pastries: Arrange the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet, placing them with some space in between. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the puff pastry is puffed up, golden brown, and crisp.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool slightly so they firm up. Dust with powdered sugar if desired to add a sweet finishing touch before serving.
Notes
- Ensure puff pastry is properly thawed before rolling for best texture.
- Customize fillings with nuts, jams, or different chocolate varieties as desired.
- Use cold butter and chilled baking sheet for flakier pastry layers.
- Watch the pastries closely during the last few minutes of baking to prevent burning.
- Serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.
