Description

Chocolate Cherry Pie Bliss combines the tartness of cherries with rich semisweet chocolate in a flaky 9-inch pie crust, creating a decadent dessert perfect for any occasion. This easy-to-make pie features a luscious cherry-chocolate filling enhanced with almond and vanilla extracts, baked to golden perfection and served best slightly warm with optional whipped cream or ice cream.

Ingredients

Pie Crust

  • 1 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Filling

  • 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen pitted cherries
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter (cut into small pieces)

Topping

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Optional coarse sugar for topping
  • Optional whipped cream or ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pie.
  2. Prepare Filling: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, almond extract, and vanilla extract. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and bubbles, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Add Chocolate: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the semisweet chocolate chips until they melt and blend evenly into the filling.
  4. Prepare Pie Crust: Roll out the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  5. Fill the Crust: Pour the cherry-chocolate filling into the pie crust and dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  6. Top the Pie: Optionally, cover with a second crust or create a lattice pattern on top. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  7. Bake: Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the pie cool at room temperature for at least 1 hour before serving. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if preferred.

Notes

  • If using frozen cherries, thaw and drain thoroughly before using to avoid excess moisture in the filling.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar depending on the tartness or sweetness of your cherries to achieve desired flavor balance.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, substitute semisweet chocolate chips with dark chocolate chips.
  • This pie is best enjoyed slightly warm or at room temperature for optimal taste and texture.
