Ingredients
For the Sauce:
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
For the Stir-Fry:
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, sliced for garnish
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, brown sugar, beef broth, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
- Stir-Fry: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Sear sliced beef for 2–3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove beef and set aside. Add remaining oil to the skillet, sauté broccoli, garlic, and ginger for 3–4 minutes until broccoli is crisp-tender. Return beef to the skillet, pour in the sauce, and toss to coat. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until sauce thickens and beef is cooked through.
- Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- For extra tenderness, marinate the beef in 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 teaspoon cornstarch for 15 minutes before cooking.
- Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. This recipe also works well with chicken or shrimp as a substitute.
