Description

This Chili Cheese Dog Casserole is a comforting and hearty layered dish combining sliced hot dogs, chili with beans, crispy tater tots, and a melty cheese topping. Perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings, it delivers classic American flavors with minimal prep and quick baking time.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 hot dogs, sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 can (15 oz) chili with beans
  • 1 package (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional Toppings

  • Diced onions
  • Jalapeños
  • Sour cream
  • Ketchup

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for even baking.
  2. Layer Chili and Hot Dogs: Spread the chili evenly in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange the sliced hot dogs evenly on top of the chili to create the base flavors.
  3. Add the Tater Tots: Spread the frozen tater tots evenly over the hot dogs and chili to form a crispy top layer once baked.
  4. Bake Tater Tots: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots turn golden and crispy.
  5. Add Cheese: Remove the casserole from the oven, sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the top, then return it to the oven.
  6. Melt Cheese: Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve with Toppings: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm, topped with optional diced onions, jalapeños, sour cream, or ketchup as desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute the chili with your favorite homemade or canned chili variety.
  • For extra spice, add sliced jalapeños inside before baking or as a topping.
  • Let the casserole cool a few minutes to help it set for easier serving.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
