Description

This Cherry BBQ Glaze is a sweet and tangy sauce perfect for enhancing the flavor of ribs, grilled chicken, or pork chops. Made with fresh or frozen cherries and a blend of classic BBQ ingredients, it offers a vibrant fruitiness balanced by smoky and savory notes. Simmered to perfection and blended smooth, this homemade glaze is easy to prepare and adds a unique twist to your favorite grilled dishes.

Ingredients

Cherry BBQ Glaze

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cherries (pitted)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the cherries, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), and a pinch of salt and black pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  2. Simmer the Mixture: Bring the combined mixture to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. During this time, the cherries will soften and the glaze will begin to thicken as the flavors meld together.
  3. Blend until Smooth: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. Using an immersion blender or transferring to a regular blender, puree the mixture until smooth and creamy.
  4. Thicken the Glaze: Pour the blended sauce back into the saucepan and simmer for an additional 5 minutes if a thicker consistency is desired. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and to ensure even thickening.
  5. Use or Store: Use the Cherry BBQ Glaze immediately on your grilled ribs, chicken, or pork, or transfer it to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • This glaze is excellent with grilled ribs, chicken, or pork chops for a delicious fruity BBQ flavor.
  • For a spicier version, increase the cayenne pepper or add a splash of hot sauce.
  • If using frozen cherries, there is no need to thaw them before cooking—they can be added directly.
