Perfect as a hearty snack or casual meal, this recipe combines oven-baked fries with stovetop-cooked steak for a deliciously cheesy finish garnished with fresh parsley.
Ingredients
Steak and Sauté
- 500g steak, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for cooking
Fries and Topping
- 1 kg frozen fries
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the fries package to prepare for baking.
- Cook the Fries: Spread the frozen fries evenly on a baking sheet and cook them according to the package instructions until they are golden and crispy, which usually takes about 20-25 minutes.
- Prepare the Steak and Onions: While the fries bake, heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook until softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and continue cooking for 1 more minute to release its flavor.
- Cook the Steak: Add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned on all sides and cooked through, approximately 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat once done.
- Assemble the Dish: Remove the golden fries from the oven and spread the cooked steak and onion mixture evenly over the top.
- Add the Cheese: Sprinkle 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese liberally over the steak and fries layer.
- Bake to Melt Cheese: Return the assembled dish to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese has fully melted and is bubbly and slightly golden on the edges.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the dish for a fresh, flavorful finish. Serve hot.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, consider tossing the frozen fries in a little olive oil before baking.
- Use a tender cut of steak for best texture, such as sirloin or ribeye.
- You can substitute cheddar cheese with any melting cheese of your choice like Monterey Jack or mozzarella.
- Adjust seasoning based on taste preference, and feel free to add a pinch of smoked paprika or chili flakes for added heat.
