Ingredients

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup diced dill pickles

Cheese

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Other

  • 1 (28-ounce) bag frozen French fries

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink, approximately 6 to 8 minutes. Make sure to crumble the beef for even cooking.
  3. Season Beef: Drain excess grease from the skillet. Season the beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well to combine flavors evenly.
  4. Add Sauces and Simmer: Stir in ketchup, yellow mustard, and Worcestershire sauce into the beef mixture. Let it simmer for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  5. Add Pickles: Remove the skillet from heat and mix in the diced dill pickles thoroughly.
  6. Layer Beef Mixture: Spread the beef mixture evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish to serve as the casserole base.
  7. Add Cheese Layer: Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the beef mixture.
  8. Top with French Fries: Evenly layer the frozen French fries over the cheese.
  9. Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
  10. Add Remaining Cheese: Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the top.
  11. Final Bake: Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Rest and Serve: Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving to allow it to set and cool slightly for easier serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add chopped cooked bacon or sautéed onions to the beef mixture before layering.
  • Serve with fresh lettuce, tomato slices, or extra pickles on the side to enhance the cheeseburger experience.
  • Use your favorite brand of frozen fries—shoestring or steak fries both work well.
  • If you prefer spicier, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
