Description

This Cheeseburger French Fry Casserole is a delicious and comforting baked dish that combines savory ground beef, melty cheddar cheese, and crispy golden French fries. Perfect for a family dinner, it’s easy to prepare and brings all the classic cheeseburger flavors in a hearty casserole form.

Ingredients

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Topping

  • 1 (28 oz) bag frozen French fries
  • Optional toppings: pickles, diced tomatoes, green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked.
  3. Sauté onion and garlic: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef, and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  4. Season and combine: Season the mixture with salt and black pepper. Stir in ketchup and yellow mustard for flavor, then remove from heat. Mix in the condensed cheddar cheese soup thoroughly until fully combined.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Transfer the beef mixture evenly into a 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  6. Add the French fries: Arrange the frozen French fries in a single layer on top of the cheese.
  7. Bake: Place the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, until the fries are golden brown and crispy on top.
  8. Serve: Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Top with optional pickles, diced tomatoes, or green onions if desired for extra flavor and freshness.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use seasoned French fries instead of plain ones.
  • Add crumbled cooked bacon to the beef mixture for a smoky twist.
  • Substitute ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter, healthier version.
