Description

Delightfully cheesy and savory, these Cheese Muffins are easy to make and perfect as a snack or quick breakfast. Featuring sharp cheddar and Parmesan cheeses, these muffins are moist, fluffy, and packed with rich flavor. With simple pantry ingredients and straightforward mixing, they come together quickly for a crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the muffin tin: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line it with paper muffin liners to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder (if using), and black pepper until evenly combined. Add the shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan cheeses and stir them into the flour mixture, ensuring the cheese pieces are well coated. This helps prevent the cheese from sinking to the bottom while baking.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the whole milk, vegetable oil or melted butter, and eggs together until the mixture is smooth and homogenous.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredient bowl. Stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon just until the batter is mixed and all ingredients are incorporated, being careful not to overmix to keep the muffins tender.
  5. Portion the batter: Evenly divide the muffin batter among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full. This gives the muffins enough room to rise without overflowing.
  6. Bake the muffins: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven, baking for 18 to 22 minutes. The muffins are done when their tops turn golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes after baking. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely, or serve them warm for a comforting cheesy snack.

Notes

  • You can substitute or combine other cheeses such as Gruyère, Monterey Jack, or your favorite cheese blends for different flavor profiles.
  • For added flavor and texture, incorporate mix-ins like chopped chives, cooked crumbled bacon, or diced jalapeños into the batter before baking.
  • Use vegetable oil for a lighter texture or melted butter for a richer flavor.
