These Cheddar Scallion Drop Biscuits are savory, cheesy, and loaded with the flavors of sharp cheddar and fresh scallions. They are quick and easy to make, perfect for serving alongside soups, stews, or as a snack.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Additional Ingredients:
- ½ cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ cup chopped scallions (green onions)
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C), and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder (if using).
- Combine butter and dry ingredients: Cut in cold butter until mixture forms coarse crumbs. Stir in cheddar and scallions.
- Add buttermilk: Pour in buttermilk and stir just until dough comes together.
- Form and bake biscuits: Drop spoonfuls of dough onto baking sheet, bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, brush warm biscuits with melted butter and a pinch of garlic salt.
- Best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven to restore crispness.
