Description

These Cardamom Poppy Seed Cookies are a delightful treat with a unique blend of flavors. The buttery, crumbly texture combined with the aromatic cardamom and crunchy poppy seeds make these cookies perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, poppy seeds, cardamom, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Shape and bake: Scoop 1 tablespoon of dough, roll into balls, place on baking sheets, flatten, and bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.
  7. Cool and store: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • For a crispier texture, bake for 1–2 extra minutes.
  • You can drizzle with a simple powdered sugar and milk glaze once cooled.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
