Ingredients
Chocolate Mixture
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup butter
Crunch Base
- 2 cups crisp rice cereal
Caramel Topping
- 1 cup caramel bits
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bars once set.
- Melt Chocolate Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each interval until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
- Melt Caramel: In a separate small bowl, combine the caramel bits and water. Microwave for 30 seconds and then stir until the caramel is melted and smooth.
- Mix Cereal and Chocolate: Place the crisp rice cereal in a large bowl. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently stir until every piece is well coated in the chocolate and peanut butter blend.
- Press Mixture into Pan: Transfer the chocolate-coated cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Press it firmly and spread evenly to create a uniform layer.
- Add Caramel Drizzle: Drizzle the smooth melted caramel evenly over the top of the pressed chocolate-cereal mixture.
- Chill to Set: Refrigerate the pan for at least 1 hour or until the bars have completely set and firmed up.
- Cut and Serve: Once chilled and firm, remove from the pan using the parchment paper. Cut into 16 equal squares and serve.
Notes
- For easier cutting, run a sharp knife under hot water, dry it, then slice through the bars.
- Store bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them firm and fresh.
- You can substitute almond butter for peanut butter for a different nutty flavor.
- If you prefer a less sweet treat, use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
- Make sure to use crisp rice cereal for the best crunch texture.
