Description

Delight in the warm, comforting flavors of Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls featuring tender, cinnamon-spiced apples wrapped in soft crescent roll dough, baked to golden perfection and drizzled with a rich caramel frosting. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or a sweet afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups diced Granny Smith apples (about 2 medium apples or 200g)
  • 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Rolls

  • 1 can crescent rolls (8 rolls)

Caramel Frosting

  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup (57g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get it ready for baking the cinnamon rolls.
  2. Cook the apple filling: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the diced apples with granulated sugar and cinnamon. Cook until the apples are tender and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Prepare the dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a flat surface and separate it into 8 triangles.
  4. Assemble the rolls: Spoon the apple filling evenly onto each crescent triangle. Starting from the wide end, roll up each triangle to form individual rolls.
  5. Bake the rolls: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the rolls turn golden brown.
  6. Make the caramel frosting: While the rolls bake, prepare the frosting by melting butter and brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in heavy cream and bring the mixture to a simmer, cooking for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat, then whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Drizzle and serve: Once the rolls are baked, drizzle the warm caramel frosting over them. Serve the rolls warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use tart Granny Smith apples for the best balance against the sweetness of the caramel.
  • You can adjust the amount of cinnamon to your taste preference.
  • For a quicker version, the apple filling can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
  • If you prefer a less sweet frosting, reduce the powdered sugar slightly.
