Ingredients
For the Crust and Topping:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Apple Filling:
- 3 medium apples, peeled and diced
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup caramel sauce, plus extra for drizzling
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Mix the Crust: In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
- Form the Crust: Press half of the mixture into the pan to create a crust.
- Prepare the Filling: Cook apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, flour, and water until slightly tender. Stir in vanilla.
- Assemble: Spread apple mixture over the crust, drizzle with caramel sauce, top with remaining oat mixture, and press down gently.
- Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow to cool completely before slicing. Drizzle with extra caramel if desired.
