Description

Indulge in the perfect blend of sweet caramel, tart apples, and crunchy oats with these delectable Caramel Apple Bars. A delightful dessert that captures the essence of fall in every bite.

Ingredients

For the Crust and Topping:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Apple Filling:

  • 3 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup caramel sauce, plus extra for drizzling
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Mix the Crust: In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
  3. Form the Crust: Press half of the mixture into the pan to create a crust.
  4. Prepare the Filling: Cook apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, flour, and water until slightly tender. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Assemble: Spread apple mixture over the crust, drizzle with caramel sauce, top with remaining oat mixture, and press down gently.
  6. Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow to cool completely before slicing. Drizzle with extra caramel if desired.

Notes

  • Opt for tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor balance.
  • Bars can be refrigerated and enjoyed cold or gently warmed for a softer texture.
