Description

Campfire Apple Pie Packets are a fun and easy way to enjoy the flavors of classic apple pie without the hassle. Packed with cinnamon-kissed apples, brown sugar, and buttery richness, these foil packets are perfect for outdoor gatherings, cooking over the campfire, grill, or even in the oven. Top with granola or graham crackers for a crispy finish and serve with ice cream for an unforgettable treat.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pats
  • Optional: puff pastry or pie crust for a topping
  • Optional: granola or crushed graham crackers for crunch
  • Heavy-duty aluminum foil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill, campfire, or oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss the apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  3. Lay out a piece of heavy-duty foil for each serving. Pile a portion of the spiced apple mixture in the center of the foil. Add a pat of butter on top. If using, place a square of puff pastry or pie crust over the apples.
  4. Fold the foil into a tight packet, making sure the edges are crimped well to trap the steam. Double-wrap with an extra layer of foil if needed to prevent leaks.
  5. Place the packets directly on the campfire coals, over a grill, or in the oven. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the sauce is bubbling. Check the packets carefully before opening to avoid steam burns.
  6. Carefully open the packets and sprinkle with granola or crushed graham crackers for added crunch. Drizzle with a little extra brown sugar if desired.
  7. Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a truly indulgent treat!

Notes

  • If making ahead, prepare the apple mixture and assemble the packets, then refrigerate or keep in a cooler until ready to cook.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute the butter with a plant-based alternative.
  • These packets can be baked in the oven at 400°F for 20-25 minutes, or until the apples are tender and bubbly.
  • Feel free to experiment with different apples, but firmer varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are best for keeping their shape during cooking.
