Description

This hearty and comforting Cabbage Beef Bake is a delicious one-dish meal that combines seasoned ground beef, tender cabbage, rice, and gooey cheddar cheese. It’s easy to make and perfect for a family dinner.

Ingredients

Ground Beef Mixture:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes with juices
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef Mixture: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened. Stir in oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Combine with Cabbage and Rice: Stir in chopped cabbage and cook until it starts to wilt. Remove from heat and mix in the cooked rice and 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
  4. Bake: Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  5. Serve: Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
  • Brown rice or quinoa can be substituted for white rice.
  • Add red pepper flakes for a little heat.
