Description
A hearty and flavorful one-pan dish featuring tender cabbage cooked with savory ground beef and seasoned with aromatic spices. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal prepared entirely on the stovetop.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 small cabbage, chopped
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can diced tomatoes (15 oz)
- 1 cup onions, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon bouillon powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Ground Beef: Place the ground beef in a large pan or cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Break up the meat using a wooden spoon and cook until fully browned and no longer pink.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: Push the browned ground beef to one side of the pan. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the other side and cook until the onions become translucent and fragrant.
- Add Tomatoes and Spices: Pour the diced tomatoes into the pan with onions and garlic. Stir in the bouillon powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and salt. Mix everything evenly.
- Simmer the Sauce: Bring the tomato and spice mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Adjust Salt and Add Cabbage: Taste the mixture and adjust salt if necessary. Add the chopped cabbage to the pan and stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Cook Cabbage Until Tender: Cover the pan with a lid and let the cabbage cook for 10-15 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally until it becomes tender but not mushy.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, increase cayenne pepper according to your heat preference.
- Use a cast-iron skillet or a heavy-bottomed pan to evenly brown the beef and prevent sticking.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or crusty bread for a complete meal.
- For added texture, garnish with fresh herbs such as parsley or cilantro before serving.
