Description

These adorable Bunny Pretzels are a fun and festive snack perfect for Easter or any holiday gathering. Made from soft pizza dough shaped into cute bunny forms and baked until golden, they are then decorated with chocolate chips or candy eyes and pink candy melts or icing for a charming touch. Easy to prepare and enjoyable for kids to help with, these pretzels combine a classic soft pretzel taste with a playful presentation.

Ingredients

For the Pretzels

  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough (13.8 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

For Decoration

  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips or candy eyes
  • 1/4 cup pink candy melts or icing (for nose and ears)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Shape the Dough: Unroll the pizza dough and cut it into 8 equal strips. Roll each strip into a long rope about 18 inches long. Shape each rope into a bunny by forming a loop at the bottom to serve as the face, then twist the ends above the loop into two smaller loops to create bunny ears.
  3. Prepare Baking Soda Solution: In a small bowl, dissolve 2 tablespoons of baking soda in 1/4 cup of warm water. This solution will give the pretzels their characteristic color and texture.
  4. Brush Pretzels: Using a brush, coat each shaped bunny pretzel with the baking soda solution on all visible surfaces. This step is crucial for proper browning and texture.
  5. Egg Wash and Salt: Place the coated pretzels on the prepared baking sheet. Brush each with the beaten egg to enhance shine and color during baking, then sprinkle generously with coarse sea salt.
  6. Bake: Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until they turn a beautiful golden brown and are cooked through.
  7. Cool and Decorate: Allow the pretzels to cool slightly on a wire rack. Once cooled enough to handle, decorate the bunnies by pressing mini chocolate chips or candy eyes into the face. Use pink candy melts or icing to create the nose and inner parts of the ears, adding a charming finishing touch.

Notes

  • You can use homemade pretzel dough if you prefer a more traditional recipe.
  • For a sweet version, omit the coarse sea salt, and after baking, brush the pretzels with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • This recipe is kid-friendly; let children help shape and decorate the bunny pretzels for a fun, engaging activity.
