Ingredients
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Brownie Batter Filling
- 1/2 cup brownie mix (dry)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
For Egg Wash and Garnish
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven & Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Make Brownie Batter: In a small bowl, combine the dry brownie mix with melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix well until a thick, spreadable batter forms.
- Cut Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the sheet into 6 equal-sized triangles for easy folding and portion control.
- Assemble Croissants: Spread approximately 1 tablespoon of the brownie batter onto each pastry triangle, leaving about a 1/4-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips evenly over the batter.
- Roll Croissants: Starting from the wide end of each triangle, roll it tightly into a crescent shape. Place each rolled croissant onto the prepared baking sheet with the seam side down, which helps maintain their shape during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Beat the egg to create an egg wash and brush it gently over the tops of each croissant. This step imparts a beautiful, golden color when baked.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the croissants are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool & Serve: Allow the croissants to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature for the best taste.
Notes
- You can use either store-bought or homemade brownie mix depending on your preference.
- Adding a pinch of espresso powder to the brownie batter intensifies the chocolate flavor.
- These croissants are best enjoyed fresh on the day of baking but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
