Ingredients
For the Bagel and Toppings
- 2 bagels, your choice
- 4 slices streaky bacon
- 100g halloumi, sliced
- 2 eggs
- Fresh chives, for garnish
For the Avocado Spread
- 1 ripe avocado
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- Sea salt, to taste
- Cracked black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Cook Bacon and Halloumi: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the streaky bacon until it becomes crispy. Then add halloumi slices to the skillet and cook them until they are golden brown on both sides. Remove both bacon and halloumi from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare Avocado: In a small bowl, mash the ripe avocado thoroughly. Add the lemon juice, red pepper flakes, sea salt, and cracked black pepper, and mix them well until combined into a flavorful spread.
- Assemble Bagel: Slice the bagels in half and spread the mashed avocado evenly over the bottom halves. Next, layer the crispy bacon and golden halloumi on top of the avocado spread.
- Make Egg in the Hole: Carefully crack an egg into the hole in the center of each bagel half, ensuring the yolk stays intact.
- Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 190°C (375°F). Place the assembled bagels inside the air fryer basket and cook for approximately 5 minutes, or until the egg white is set and cooked to your preferred doneness.
- Serve: Remove the cooked bagels carefully from the air fryer. Garnish with chopped fresh chives and serve immediately for a warm and hearty breakfast.
Notes
- You can use any type of bagel you prefer, such as plain, sesame, or whole wheat.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, you can cook the eggs in a skillet, but the air fryer gives a perfectly cooked egg in the bagel hole.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon or substitute with vegetarian bacon alternatives.
- Ensure the eggs are fresh to get the best results when cooking inside the bagel.
