Description

These Bolognese Spaghetti Bake Muffin Cups are a delightful twist on traditional spaghetti Bolognese, combining pasta and rich meat sauce into convenient, portable muffin-sized servings. Perfect for family meals or parties, these muffin cups feature layers of spaghetti coated in egg and cheese, topped with a savory ground beef and tomato sauce, then baked until golden and bubbly.

Ingredients

Pasta Mixture

  • 8 oz spaghetti, cooked al dente
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)

Bolognese Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Toppings and Garnish

  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (remaining)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin with cooking spray or line with muffin liners to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5 to 7 minutes. Then add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking for another 2 minutes until softened.
  3. Make Bolognese Sauce: Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the beef mixture. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to thicken and blend the flavors.
  4. Prepare Spaghetti Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti, beaten egg, milk, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well to evenly coat the pasta.
  5. Assemble Muffin Cups – First Layer: Spoon a small amount of the spaghetti mixture into each muffin cup, pressing it down slightly to form a base.
  6. Add Bolognese Layer: Spoon a generous tablespoon of the prepared Bolognese sauce over the spaghetti base in each muffin cup.
  7. Assemble Muffin Cups – Top Layer: Top with the remaining spaghetti mixture, pressing down gently to shape into muffin cups. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of each cup.
  8. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden on top.
  9. Cool and Garnish: Remove from oven and allow the muffin cups to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the tin. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
  10. Serve: Serve the Bolognese spaghetti bake muffin cups hot and enjoy these delicious, convenient pasta treats.

Notes

  • You can prepare spaghetti slightly undercooked so it holds its shape better in the muffin cups after baking.
  • Feel free to customize with different cheeses like cheddar or provolone for a unique flavor.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with cooked lentils or plant-based meat, and use a vegetarian sauce.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • Use fresh herbs for garnish to add a touch of color and enhanced flavor.
