Ingredients
Pasta Mixture
- 8 oz spaghetti, cooked al dente
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
Bolognese Sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Toppings and Garnish
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (remaining)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin with cooking spray or line with muffin liners to prevent sticking.
- Cook Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5 to 7 minutes. Then add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking for another 2 minutes until softened.
- Make Bolognese Sauce: Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the beef mixture. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to thicken and blend the flavors.
- Prepare Spaghetti Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti, beaten egg, milk, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well to evenly coat the pasta.
- Assemble Muffin Cups – First Layer: Spoon a small amount of the spaghetti mixture into each muffin cup, pressing it down slightly to form a base.
- Add Bolognese Layer: Spoon a generous tablespoon of the prepared Bolognese sauce over the spaghetti base in each muffin cup.
- Assemble Muffin Cups – Top Layer: Top with the remaining spaghetti mixture, pressing down gently to shape into muffin cups. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of each cup.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden on top.
- Cool and Garnish: Remove from oven and allow the muffin cups to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the tin. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
- Serve: Serve the Bolognese spaghetti bake muffin cups hot and enjoy these delicious, convenient pasta treats.
Notes
- You can prepare spaghetti slightly undercooked so it holds its shape better in the muffin cups after baking.
- Feel free to customize with different cheeses like cheddar or provolone for a unique flavor.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with cooked lentils or plant-based meat, and use a vegetarian sauce.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
- Use fresh herbs for garnish to add a touch of color and enhanced flavor.
