Fresh blueberries add a burst of fruity sweetness, and a final honey drizzle elevates the flavors for an irresistible gourmet experience.
Ingredients
Croissants
- 4 large croissants (preferably fresh or day-old)
Ricotta Filling
- 1 cup ricotta cheese (whole milk or part-skim)
- 1 tablespoon honey (plus more for drizzling)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest (optional, for a citrusy twist)
Fruit & Garnish
- ½ cup fresh blueberries (plus more for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Ricotta Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, honey, vanilla extract, and lemon zest if using. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and well blended for a flavorful filling.
- Assemble the Croissants: Slice each croissant horizontally to create a top and bottom half. Spread a generous amount of the ricotta mixture evenly over the bottom halves, then sprinkle fresh blueberries on top of the ricotta for fresh fruitiness.
- Bake the Croissants: Arrange the assembled croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes until the croissants turn golden brown and the ricotta filling is slightly set but still creamy.
- Finish with Honey Drizzle: Remove the croissants from the oven and immediately drizzle additional honey over each one to add a sweet, sticky glaze that complements the creamy ricotta and fresh blueberries.
- Serve & Garnish: Garnish with extra fresh blueberries and a light dusting of powdered sugar if desired. Serve these croissants warm to enjoy the perfect blend of flaky pastry, creamy filling, and sweet toppings.
Notes
- Use day-old croissants for better texture when baked.
- The lemon zest adds a bright citrus note but can be omitted if preferred.
- Whole milk ricotta provides a richer flavor, but part-skim ricotta can be used for a lighter option.
- Serve immediately after baking for the best texture and flavor.
- Powdered sugar garnish is optional and adds visual appeal and slight sweetness.
