Ingredients
Main Casserole:
- 1 loaf French bread (about 12–16 oz), cut into 1-inch cubes
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Prepare Casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray. Place cubed French bread in the dish.
- Make Custard Mixture: Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, spices, and salt. Pour over bread, press down, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
- Prepare Topping: Mix flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in butter to form crumbs. Refrigerate.
- Bake: Preheat oven. Sprinkle topping over casserole. Bake until set and golden. Let cool slightly before serving.

- Challah or brioche can be used for a richer texture.
