Scale
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk (for eggs)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Butter or non-stick spray (for greasing)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Do not drain the fat.
- Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- Gradually whisk in the 2 1/2 cups of milk. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens into a gravy. Remove from heat.
- Cut the biscuits into quarters and layer half of them into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Spoon the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit pieces.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs and 1/4 cup of milk. Pour over the gravy layer.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the eggs.
- Top with the remaining biscuit pieces.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and eggs are set.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can make the gravy ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to assemble.
- Try adding chopped green onions or diced bell peppers for extra flavor.
- Substitute turkey sausage for a lighter version.
